COUNCIL OF LAW

There are four types of a Circle of Law:

*A Civil, Social and Religious Circle of Law deals with limits by the government. It addresses issues of attempted restriction by civil, social or religious law regarding our function as a tribe.

*A Tribunal Circle of Law deals with charges of injustice (for example, a violation of protocol or alchemy).

*A Tribal Self-Growth and Development Circle of Law deals with the tribe making a jump in evolution. For example: This type was called to manage and oversee the creation of the new Black Lodge Requirements.

*A Medicine Circle of Law deals with issues of the Standards of Excellence.

The Deer Tribe Lineage Council of Law, as a circle, has the versatility to meet with a less formal protocol and address the various kinds of issues that the tribe may be facing. However, if needed, the Council can also sit as a formal Circle of Law in one of four types as described below. Intent and the type of protocol used distinguish the difference between a Council of Law and a Circle of Law.

Supporting the Community

The Circle of Law can take on several forms depending on what is needed within the community. Its basic form is a formal setting with full protocol in place in which all members of the community or collective are invited and “the people” have a voice through the North of the circle. The full Circle of Law is called whenever basic law is at issue.
